I use vibrant colors to create oil paintings in an impressionistic style depicting regional landscapes, whimsical character portraits and the occasional still life.
I am attempting to develop an individual style not only by formulating a personal color palette, but also by generating a movement of directional patterns across my canvas that will create emotional interest for the viewer, from a distance as well as up close.
I focus on general shapes and often push my subjects out of the picture plane for a little mystery by not telling the full story. And I often like to distort the perspective to create a more interesting subject matter. My main purpose is not to make the subject look right, but to make it feel right.
